Committees

Project Committees

Parks and Gardens. Committees are responsible for clean-up, weeding, and maintenance.

  • Scotch Ridge Church Grounds. (Church waters)
    Members: All garden club members will participate in annual clean up
  • Brownie Park & Magnolia Arboretum. (City of Norwalk waters)
  • Randleman House. (Randleman House waters)
  • Warren County Fairgrounds Flower Beds. (AGC committee members water and maintains interior beds only)
  • Warren County Justice Center Cancer Remembrance Flower Bed. (AGC committee members check the irrigation/drip system)

Calling/Email Communications:  This committee is responsible for all AGC email communications that are garden themed or AGC related

AGC Handbook:  This committee is responsible for constructing, revising, and printing the yearly club handbook.
 
Photographs and Video:  This committee is responsible for taking photos at AGC meetings, activities, and events.

Standing Committees

Awards. Executive Committee, Chair
This committee prepares entries for awards on State, Central Region and/or National levels for which the club may be eligible. All Committee Chairs work with the President to determine eligible award submissions.  The form for award submissions can be found online (websites can be found in our handbook Appendix.

Warren County Fair Liaison/Floral Superintendent & Committee
Responsibilities: committee acts as liaison to the County Fair Board.  AGC is Superintendent of the Warren County Horticultural Building.

Courtesy.
Responsibilities: Sends cards to ill, hospitalized or members receiving treatment. Sends flowers in event of a death of a member, member's spouse, or other close relative living in the home of a member.

Executive Committee. 
All Officers and Standing Committee Chairs

Garden Therapy.
Responsibilities: Provides shut-ins and Honorary AGC members with birthday cards, flowers or seasonal gifts.  The committee may choose to work with a group in the community promoting goodwill with flowers/plants.  Members may also make and take holiday/seasonal cards or arrangements to residents of a retirement community.  The committee provides ways for AGC to celebrate National Garden Week (June) with the community. 

Membership.

Responsibilities: Conducts new member orientation

Nominating of Officers 2026.
Responsibilities: Present slate of officers at October meeting of odd numbered years.   The committee plans the Officer Installation Ceremony held at the January meeting in even numbered years.

Programs for Monthly Meetings. 

Responsibilities: Plans monthly programs and assists presenters with AV needs

Publicity.
Responsibilities
Submits meeting dates/times to local newspapers; contacts local papers regarding special events for stories and/or pictures

Scholarship.
R
esponsibilities: Selects an eligible junior, senior or transfer student in the Horticulture Department at Iowa State University to receive a $500 scholarship.

Special Projects.
Responsibilities: Youth Container Class, District Garden Club Meeting (if we are hosting), AGC Picnic.

Ways and Means.
Responsibilities: Plant and Garden Treasures Sale, Autumn Fest, and other money-making events.
